12/10/13 No Trade (WASDE *LIVE*)

Well today was the first uneventful wasde i've ever seen. Not sure why this happened but I was fast enough to close my orders once I saw that the market was hesitating. You'll see in the video that there was a couple seconds to exit before being filled. Lets hope this isnt the start of a new trend, most likely this is just the December affect. 12/6/13 +$343.75 (NFP *LIVE*)

 Today we had the NFP release, I was able to make $343.75 by trading only 1 contract. My goal today was to see how the slippage was and if we'd get another whipsaw. Hopefully things can finally get back to normal. Those early moves are annoying but today it paid off. In the future ill be testing different bracket entry times to see how we can avoid the early spikes. Hopefully the FED can get things under control. (To test JOBB for yourself CLICK HERE)

The Oil Well (Day 22 testing)

Today was the last day of my oil well testing and ill hopefully be able to go live next week. Ill be uploading the final review shortly so look out for that in the next couple of days. Problem uploading videos

Just wanted to drop a  quick update. I'm having problems uploading videos to youtube and thats the reason yesterdays video isnt up yet. I'm still talking to customer support for the video recording software I use so hopefully they'll get me up and running shortly. Well today was another heavily trending day. I got a sell signal in the middle of a long up move. I decided to go ahead and take it since the grey box was there and it turned out to be a loser. No system is without losers so days like this are to be expected, doesnt mean we have to like them. Tomorrow is the final day of testing, lets hope we get several trades. Today I didnt get to my computer until 9am. We had the first trade at 8 30 so sadly I missed it. That also happened to be todays only trade. Well today was another great trading day. We had an early winner followed by a second setup that was absolutely perfect but sadly it didn't get filled. That second trade would of been easily worth trading 2 contracts on as everything pointed towards the market going higher. My testing will be coming to an end this week. This trade had lots of slippage, around 20 ticks total i believe. I was able to take 12 ticks in profit tho. I did hit the close button a bit too soon. 11/8/2013 -$375 (NFP *LIVE*)

Well this sucks. I got a great fill but for some reason my TP didnt get triggered. I was up over $700 and then within a second I was down over $300. No words for the annoyance I feel right now. This happened to several people and several other people got their take profits filled just fine. Not sure what to make of it. Hopefully your one of the people who made money on this.(*UPDATE* looks like trading was halted for 5 seconds during this release which meant that if you were in there was no way to get out. The Oil Well (Day 16 testing)

Well today we had an early winner. The signal came around 10:30 and we took a little heat before it shot up to give us our 10 ticks. You'll notice on average we only get 1-2 trades per day. This is perfectly fine as my goal is to make 10 ticks per day and as my account balance goes up ill simply trade more contracts. 10 ticks with 10 contracts is $1000 per day. Not bad at all. Well today was my first losing day in a long time, about 2 weeks I think. I'm not too concerned about this loss because I know why it happened. Over the next couple days you'll notice the blog change a bit. I wont be making any huge changes just things I feel will make it better. If you have any ideas on what I can do to enhance the blog let me know in the comments section. For now you'll notice the blog is wider so I can add larger videos, i've moved the page options to the top instead of the sidebar and i've added a contact me form in the sidebar so you can speak to me privately if needed. Well today was a great day. Mondays are usually slow and today was no different but we got a trade at right around 2pm so I took it since it was within my time frame. It was a winner in a big way. Well Fridays are typically slow so I expected as much, by 2 I was off doing something else. I came back to check the chart and finish the video only to see that we had a great setup. Today was a bit of a tease. The market came within 2 ticks of filling us on our first possible trade, and we were 1 tick from being filled on the second trade. Both would of been winners. But the market just didn't give them to us today. Such is trading. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Either way I'd rather have no trades than a losing trade so I cant complain. Well today was a good day, and to be honest im a bit surprised. There were several u.s. news releases and I figured we'd get several false signals but that wasnt the case. We got 1 signal today and it was a good trade. Its nice to see this does well even on heavy news days as alot of systems dont. Today was a slow day, there was 1 trade today but it came at the end of my day around 4:15 and I happened to be at my cpu. There was another trade on the brent crude oil futures and unfortunately if your using rithmic data like me they dont offer the Brent. Today was a bit better. There were 3 chances to take a trade and I happened to catch 1 of them which was a winner. No complaints there. I didn't notice the second trade until I refreshed the chart but it was too late. I missed the first trade because I stepped away for an hour. I swear it seems like whenever I leave thats when the trades pop up. Lastly near the end there's something wrong with my cursor, its not pointing in the correct spots so just expect that. Not a very trade filled day but there was 1 lesson that needed to be touched on. Scott said in one of his videos that some days would be like this so its to be expected. 10/22/2013 +$2437.50 (NFP)

Well today was an interesting trade. With all the slippage that i've seen since the shut down ended I decided to test this out with a 15 tick take profit and a 5 tick stop. I spoke with several other traders and everyone took between 7-11 ticks of slippage which is terrible considering were used to only taking 2 or 3. Well today was another uneventful trading day. Not much happened. Took a couple trades and missed a couple trades. I do like how the bell rings when there's a setup available. Well today was a very slow day. I assumed we wouldn't get many trades because it was Friday and I was right. In fact we didn't get 1 trade to trigger today. There was 1 that would of been acceptable to trade but it was at 8:24 and I didn't get to the computer until a little after 8 :30 today.  Anyway next week we should have news trading back with nfp etc. so ill be trading that as well :-) Lets hope things get back to normal soon. The Oil Well (Day 1 Testing)

Well today was interesting. I made 3 mistakes today that ill mention now. Firstly I forgot to enter the support and resistance lines, trend lines and pivot points. Secondly I forgot to enter my ATM strategy and Lastly I stopped trading 10 minutes early. I lost money from all 3 of these mistakes and today ended up being a break even day when it should of been a highly profitable one. Hopefully those mistakes wont happen in the future. (Go full screen and switch quality to 720p to see the video better) Well today was a very small move. There wasn't a huge deviation so that might be the cause of such a small reaction. I really wanted to see how the zb would act after the government shut down but this isnt a good example. Today we had the World agricultural supply and demand estimates. This trade has been pretty safe over the past year, the only losses i've taken on it were due to my own inexperience. After doing a bit of research last night I decided to use a 25 as my tp which worked out very well for a profit of 25 ticks. 9/12/13 +$480.00 (Natural Gas)

Natural gas is one of those trades that has the potential to move 100 ticks but it also can have huge amounts of slippage and whipsaws and other bad things us news traders want no parts of. 9/11/13 +$187.50 (10 year bond auction)

Well I decided to test this one again with a tight Take Profit of 5, it hasn't had an indecisive reaction in the last year or so but has had several dull. Ill keep this one on the radar and see how it does going forward. (To test JOBB for yourself CLICK HERE )

Trading Account Update

I've decided to take out $2500 of my original $3000 which means im basically just trading with profits now. It seemed like the right thing to do at this time. Lets hope things get back to normal in news trading going forward. I'm still reviewing several systems trying to decide what i'd like to test out next so that will be updated at some point in the near future. Take care folks.

9/6/2013 -$500.00 (NFP *LIVE*)

Well there's not much to say here. After over a year of winners NFP has finally given a loss. Whats even more annoying is that I could of gotten my stop to break even had the cursor been on the chart but for some reason I had it at the top of the screen. I lost 7 ticks on this one but because I used money  management I only lost 6% of my account this week. The last 3 nfp releases have had early spikes and this is becoming a concern. We'll simply have to wait and see if it stops or continues. Anyway dont lose hope folks, taking losses is a part of trading, as long as we manage our funds properly we'll come out ahead in the end. 9/3/13 +375.00 (ISM Man. PMI)

Its been several weeks since i've been able to trade but I have my internet back now and hopefully this week we can get things back to normal. This trade has been doing well lately on the zb and that trend continued today. After spiking down there was a short pause before it continued pushing down. Unfortunately I exited at that short pause and missed about half the move. Several other traders I spoke to were able to take up to 16 ticks on this one. 8/12/2013 NO TRADE (WASDE)

 

Well what to say about this one. After talking to several people who took this trade manually without using the software I can atleast say the software wasnt the problem. No one got filled on this one. The general theory is the slippage was too great and our orders were simply skipped over.

8/4/13 -$450.00 (Aus. Retail Sales)

Well this was disappointing. My first trade with vision and I get massive slippage. I had an 8 tick stop and ended up losing 36 ticks. As you'll notice the spike up and then the immediate spike down happened in the same second so I guess jobb just couldnt put the stop in fast enough. Lots of people took heavy losses from what I read in the chat, between 16 and 36. I also noticed that my take profit would of been hit as i was using an 8 but it was just too fast to fill it. Anyway that's it for now, lets hope things go better for vision financial markets feed in the future. (Go full screen and switch quality to 720p to see the video better)

8/2/13 NO TRADE (NFP)

Well I missed my second nfp today. The issue started with my ninja platform as it wouldn't let me switch over to live account. I just got it setup yesterday and assumed everything was working properly so the mistake was mine for not checking everything. Secondly after speaking with Jay he says the JOBB servers went down around the time NFP was released so lots of people who used the software didn't get triggered at all. It seems if you tried to restart ninja 5 minutes before the news comes out as a lot of people do it wouldn't of let you add jobb to your chart. We now know in the future not to restart jobb before the news just in case this ever happens again. Also nfp spiked 3 seconds early, no idea what thats about. Anyway that's it for now. A bit disappointing but that's how it goes sometimes.Take care and good luck on the next one.

Several people have asked why I havent been updating the blog. The answer is that I was in the process of setting up a new brokerage account. As of today my new account is funded and ready to go so new videos will start again very soon. My plan is to test the 3 prominent data feeds and see which gives the best fills and also to test out several brokers to see how they measure up against one another. So far i've only reviewed global, which can be viewed in the broker review section, but the progressive review will be up in about 3 months. Global Futures Review

GLOBALFUTURES.COM - Finally my 3 month testing period has ended and I can now provide an accurate review of Global. To start off with i'd like to say I had a great experience with this company.

Margins: Global has some of the best margins i've seen. S&P emini margin is only $400 and in fact none of the margins for emini's are above $500. The Australian Dollar (6A) is only $500 and so is Natural Gas and Japanese Yen. They even  have a program that offers $300 emini margins tho I didnt go for it.

Opening Account: It took me about 2 days to open an account with global. They told me I was approved to open an account the day I submitted my application and I had funding instructions which I used the next day. I chose to wire my funds in and my account was funded the same day. The application was similar to any other companies and wasn't any longer or shorter.

Customer Support: Once you visit the global website you'll notice the online chat link. I love companies that offer this service. I prefer to chat than call for convenience and getting questions answered is very easy. There is also a phone number at the very top of the page, and yes they do offer 24 hour customer support so there's no reason you wont be able to get your questions answered. Lastly email support is also good, I usually get a response same day, often within an hour. I've asked plenty of random questions and they always try to find the answer for me.

Withdrawals: I personally have only withdrawn by having a check mailed, which only took 5 days to arrive from the day I submitted for the withdrawal. I chose not to use wire transfer mainly because I didn't wish to pay the fee and also because I don't mind waiting.

Final recommendation: Well I hope this bit of info was informative to someone. The last thing I can say is I would HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone especially spike traders. 7/11/13 +237.50 (WASDE *LIVE*)

 

Well today we had a small move for the WASDE, I wasnt sure if I should use the sept. or dec. contract but I saw dec. had more volume so I chose that. Big mistake. September moved bigger. I was only able to take 11 ticks in profit but im not complaining. A win is a win. Also this will be the end of my jobb review period. Its been 3 months and ill be doing my final review of the software very shortly. I already have the next course in mind that ill be testing so there will also be info on that coming shortly as well.

ZB NFP Error Fix

Well I promised several people i'd post the reply that I received from my broker about why I didnt get filled on the last NFP. I'm not really sure if their solution will fix the problem but the answer is below. Hope it helps.

These are separate than stop orders. A stop limit order should not be submitted in place of a stop order.

To understand how this was placed as a stop limit order, I would need to see exactly how the order was placed.

I believe the client used a break out bracket can you explain if the  stop setting in dom properties will help ensure it is a stop that is used instead of stop-limit?  See the pic below should I have him change that to true?

With the current setting in the screenshot a stop limit order will be used as the stop loss and not a stop market order.
This will need to be set to true for the stop loss to be a stop market order.

7/5/2013 NO TRADE (NON Farm Payroll)

Well, there's not much to say about this. Ive contacted my broker to see what caused it so ill be waiting for a reply and once I have it ill post it here. This moved 48 ticks in 5 seconds and could of been a great trade. But its better to get a no trade than a losing trade so I wont complain. Ill update once I find out what happened.

6/28/13 -$700 (Grain Stocks *LIVE*)

Well this was the trade from hell folks. The last 5 releases went perfectly but the first time I trade it live, it fails. Such  a let down. The only good thing about this trade is that I saw the sell off that started at 8:30 and decided to only trade 2 contracts. This could of been a disaster if I had traded heavy. I also have to mention that I was filled in both directions on this trade, my loss should only of been 350 but it was doubled because of how fast the market moved.  Anyhow im still up for the month, picking my trades carefully and money management saved me. Well today wasde had a chance to act right as the last 2 have been disappointing. April was  my mistake but May was simply a bad trade. Today however was excellent and everything went as planned. Well all but 1 thing. I tried moving my stop down too close to where the market price was and I got an error message and decided to just hit the close button. 6/7/2013 +$2250.00 (US NFP *LIVE*)

Today was a bit of an odd day. The zb was moving a lot more during the pre news market than is typical. Knowing this I lowered my contract size and also lowered my first take profit just to be safe. In the end things worked out pretty good, the market spiked down enough to give us a profit and then immediately retraced back up again. I've been testing a new method of trading natural gas. So far its done pretty good and I plan on testing it for several more months before trying it live.
